I care what they think.
I’ll try and find an excuse.
Today I decided to stare at my emerging Hyacinth flowers. I stared for quite some time. No thoughts involved. But then I forced myself to remember things. Like that one day, when I received those bulbs in the mail for example. I don’t want to scare you all, but generally…
IF YOU LIKE THE BEAUTY YOU GOTTA BE READY TO ENDURE SOME PAIN
Be prepared to fight for your life actually. But hey, allow yourself to learn the hard way, it makes it all worth it just a tiny bit more.
So, Not knowing that a few moments later I would be enjoying some rash on my arms and itching, I opened that bag of bulbs that read “Pastel Mix”. Pastel it is indeed! My hands were SORT OF pastel bright red. Gotcha!
Yeah, those beautiful “pastel mix” Hyacinth bulbs (we’ll see how pastel they are in a few months) have some unparalleled UNpastel character.
And yet again they trick you, what is this mystical and sophisticated word “Hyacinth”? I’m yet to learn the meaning. I would say “the Armed Forces” would have been a more suitable name.
Arm yourselves with a pair of gloves and respiratory protection of sorts (chances are you have those around ;)) while handling Hyacinth a.k.a. “The Armed Forces” bulbs, preferably outdoors with no pets around. These bulbs are notorious for causing some allergic episodes. Now watch this beauty emerge, in what’s known to be a very early spring in Los Angeles according to some plants, February that is.

Sharing a large pot, they can be planted close together
Being such a delicate plant, it has some strength to push through the soil. Bulbs are planted 6in deep.

It has a very distinct structure. Tell me what character it reminds you of?
Planted around the same time in October 2020, these tulips are trying to keep up with the Armed Forces.
Looks like we will enjoy a tropical island of the bearded irises this summer. Get ready!

Look at this potted olive tree enjoying some sun rays and a leg warmer…

Meanwhile I’m being eyeballed as well..

Cheerzzzz!
