How much do you appreciate the silence?

This place presented me with the greatest gift of silence and unique alternative beauty only an open space can provide.

Soda Lake,

Where the toxins dissolve in the heat of summer and thoughts drift away into …

Silence

These photographs offer a general feel of the soil texture, native vegetation and the area surrounding the lake as depicted in July. Soda Lake is located in San Luis Obispo County, California. One of the largest alkali wetlands in the state provides important habitat for migratory birds. With no outlet, the water evaporates, leaving behind an expense of sodium sulfate and carbonate salts.

Not many plants grow on the surface of the lake , but this gun has been learning the ropes.

Not far from the lake there is an intricate sandstone formation. Native Americans began to paint their sacred images within the alcove of the rock about 3,000-4,000 years ago. The reservations are required to visit the formation.

At this time of year the area displayed a variety of vintage colors and preserves it’s original weathered look.
