Do you have a backyard?

ANY Backyard?

Any space in the back yard? FRONT?

Does your neighbor?

Tell them you are about to demonstrate what “the highest and best use” truly means and will utilize their property to the best of your abilities.

If they are not on the same train, EXPLAIN to them

Your LIFE depends on…

AVOCADO TREES

Those mesmerizing shades of pale green and Viridian green with a touch of yellow hues pack monounsaturated fats, potassium and fiber, which according to research protects from heart disease and benefits cardiovascular system. Your body follows your thoughts, and you should think of following the potassium and monounsaturated fats at all times.

All you need to know:

THEY GROW IN POTS

Get the largest pot you can handle, if your pot is going to be placed on top of concrete.

20 gallon pot will suffice if you place it on top of native soil, where the roots can grow further out once they reach the bottom of the pot.

The Best Mulch you can provide for any tree is it’s leaves. The pictured tree was purchased at the Home Depot. The soil it was sold in (ground up trees) was replaced with good sandy soil.

THEY GROW IN SAND

Technically, you can grow them in consistently moist sand. This will work if you make watering this tree into your hobby. I would recommend sandy soil mixes. Pumice rock, mixed with sand and peat moss.

Check out Gary’s Best Top Pot Soil. It’s not available at major stores but your local nursery may carry it. Otherwise, make a trip to Laguna Hills Nursery in Santa Ana.

The best native soil is sandy loam. If your property is sandy loam, which is normally grayish in color you scored a jackpot.

Plant your trees directly in ground if you can.

THEY ROT IN COMPOST AND ORGANIC MATTER

Do not fill your pot with compost and place your avocado in it. It will rot. Because rotting is what “rich” organic matter does when it is watered. Your avocado’s roots will join that rotting circus. They sell it because it’s cheaper and because it’s lighter.

YOU CAN GROW THEM FROM SEED

You do not have to sprout that seed with a “toothpick over glass jar” method. Put that seed in the ground, it will sprout, guaranteed.

Growing trees from seed requires patience and OCD.

If you don’t have these two things, get your Avocado Tree from a reputable nursery.

This will ensure several things. Your tree will fruit within 2-3 years. Your tree will be true to parent. That means if you bought a certain variety of an Avocado Tree, it will stay true to the variety, because it was grown from a cutting or by grafting.

If you grow from seed. Your tree will bear fruit at maturity. Most trees reach maturity at 7-10 years. 5 years if you transferred your positive vibes to a seed when you planted it.

Trees grown from seeds are strong and resilient and ARE UNIQUE. They may not be true to the variety but still produce delicious fruits.

IF YOU HAVE CLAY SOIL

Trees like air and water.

When it comes to water retention you can’t get better than clay. To aerate clay I would recommend mixing Pumice with Native soil before planting your seeds or trees.

POUR SOME SUGAR ON THEM!

Once you notice your tree flowering, make a solution of maple syrup or honey and water, and spray it around the flowers. Bees will always pick your blueberry bush flowers over an Avocado Tree. If Avocado Trees is all you have to offer than you might be lucky.

You’ve got this!
