With growing fruit trees…
Any Trees
Adopt a Black Mission Fig Tree. The most nutritious fruit that you can grow with little effort.
You can add figs to salads, make shakes, eat them raw and get all the micro nutrients your body will ever need. The fruit is attached directly to the trunks and stems at leaf nodes. The tree needs to be Fully exposed to sun throughout the day to produce the sweetest fruit possible.
Fig trees prefer sandy loam to sandy clay soils and do not require high moisture environment.
If you prefer growing in pots, make sure your soil mix has sand and pumice in large quantities, which allows the air circulation around the roots.
Important:
Figs are easily propagated from cuttings, so if you fell in love with a fig tree in your neighborhood give it a trim.
OKAY…OKAY
Asking before you hug someone else’s tree with pruning shears may potentially prevent you from becoming News on Nextdoor.
You may choose to experiment with growing trees from seeds. Trees grown from seeds may take a few years to fruit. But your variety will definitely be something no one else has.
The tree you see in the video was grown from a cutting taken from a very small overpriced black mission fig I purchased from a very popular online nursery.
In comparison to my potted Fig, the rooted cutting planted directly in ground fruited abundantly the second year. The potted tree that was shipped to me is yet to produce fruit. Fertilize your potted plants to get better results or place the pot where it touches the native soil, so the roots can grow out.
